ASCII Banner Generator

Turn text into an ASCII art banner for a login message (MOTD), a script header or a code comment. Six classic FIGlet fonts are drawn exactly as the figlet command draws them, and comment wrappers are made safe for the language you paste into.

Up to 50 characters; the banner updates as you type. Short text (1–10 characters) fits a standard 80-column terminal best.

Font

Block and Simple use box-drawing characters (UTF-8) and only capitals, digits and . - _ ! ?; the FIGlet fonts are plain ASCII and also have lowercase, punctuation and Latin-1 letters.

Common Uses

  • MOTD: Message of the Day for SSH login banners
  • Scripts: Header comments in shell scripts
  • Code: Section dividers in source files
  • Servers: Console banners and welcome messages
  • README: Documentation headers

How it works

  • Standard, Slant, Small, Big, Doom and Banner are the original FIGlet font files, laid out with FIGlet's own rules for overlapping letters (“smushing”). Results were checked against FIGlet 2.2.5 on 522 test strings.
  • Comment wrappers are made safe: inside /* */ a */ is split, inside <!-- --> a --> is split, a //, # or ; comment never ends with a backslash that would swallow your next line (C, C++, Make, Tcl), and \u is escaped so Java does not read it as a Unicode escape. Each wrapper was checked by compiling and running the result in gcc, g++, Java 21, Node.js, Python, Bash and SQLite.
  • Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
