How it is counted

  • Nothing extra is collected. The web server already logs each request (IP address, time, page, browser name, referrer) for security, and deletes those logs after about 30 days. Once a day, the finished day’s log is reduced to the totals on this page.
  • Only totals are kept — visitors, page views, the top pages and grouped sources per day. No IP address, browser string or full referrer is stored; a visitor’s identity exists only in memory while their day is counted, so each person counts once.
  • Page addresses are stored without their query string, so nothing you type into a tool (a domain, a hash, a search) can ever appear here.
  • A visitor is a browser that loaded a page and the site’s own stylesheets or scripts that day. Known crawlers, scripts and monitors are excluded, and so are scrapers that pose as browsers but never load those files. Numbers therefore lean low: someone returning with everything already cached may not be counted that day.
